It's Gotcha Day...Part One

OUR HOTEL

I guess we aren't completely used to the time difference yet. We tend to be 11:00 pm-12:00 am "going-to-bed" kind of people. Last night, we were out by 9:00 pm. Of course, we woke up at 5:00 am, so Liz and I ventured out for 45 minutes and took a few early morning pictures. This "town" has a little of everything a westerner wants. There's a Starbucks, though they don't open until 9:00 am, something that would never fly in America; a 7-Eleven, not open either. Then there's the little shops where you can buy the trinkets, asian style clothes and restaurants that cater to our tastes.

The air is thick with humidity (sorry I keep complaing about that), and there are already senior citizens out doing their yoga, or tai chi stretches. It is a very public, yet normal practice here. I'm not an expert on this, but I think it's there way of connecting with Buddha, the gods, or whatever they believe in. Sad really.

Today we head over to the Civil Affairs office and join a whole bunch of other families getting their child. We are going over with one other family from the same agency, who already have one Chinese daughter (age 6), and are getting a 7 year old. He asked our facilitator uf she spoke any English, and the answer was no. I was a bit concerned about how Sean is going to do, but I think it will be an even bigger hurdle for this girl. On the other hand, she's old enough to know what is going on, but I can't help but imagine she understands what a life altering experience this will be.

Here's one of the many statues set up around this little island.

Maybe she should walk her dog faster!
