A Day in the Sky

This past Sunday, we got a call from a friend who has a plane. He wanted to know if we wanted to go up for a few hours. Didn't take much to say yes, though I admit I was a bit nervous. I tend to read headlines in my head and usually read the worst. But as soon as take off was accomplished, it was a great ride. Don's a great pilot, very conscious.

He took us over his place (see picture above), among other places, but we spent quite a bit of time going over places I usually have to drive...it has always been interesting how flight cuts out so much time.

Don's plane is a 1952 Cessena and if I understand him right, not many are around anymore. Definitely a classic. He let me take the wheel for a little bit...and it seemed on the one hand, like I was playing a video game, seemed intuitive, like driving a car...and sweaty hands when I remembered I was actually in control of a machine that couldl get us killed. A great day!

Family minus one

This is the photo we submitted to China so Shan An En can take a look at us and see if he's interested in coming to live with us :)

One step closer (LOA)

We received our letter of acceptance from China today, which means we want Shan as our son. We send it back today, then wait, possibly for up to three weeks before we get our Travel Approval. That only means China will let us in to their country to get Shan. Many more approvals to come, but this was a big one!

Matthew 24:7-8

This is not about prohecy, just a reminder that Christ told us these things would happen. We have to remind ourselves we live in a fallen world. Normally I don't take notice of these stories too much...I say that to my shame. The earthquake in China hits a little closer to home since our son is still there, though he is located farther to the east than where the quake hit. I do not know these people, but I grieve for their loss and pain.

NBA Revision

Here's a revision to my earlier post, now that the "weeding" has begun. New teams to root for:

1. Cleveland Cavs (East)
2. New Orleans Hornets (West)
3. Orlando Magic (East)
4. Jazz (West)

Chicago

Last night, my company took the sales department for a dinner cruise at the Navy Pier in downtown Chicago. It was nice, and I wish I'd brought my camera. I'm sure I could have gotten some nice shots. That said, I had the camera phone, so this will have to suffice for now.

When your world is turned upside down

On May 1st 2008, Dawn and I had the priviledge of getting the news we are having another boy! God has turned my world upside down in a matter of a week. As of April 30, Dawn and I anticipated waiting another year or two to be matched up with a girl from China. Actually, we have been waiting for three years now, but the process slowed so much, we were wondering if it would ever happen. For various reasons, Dawn and I decided to switch from Non-special needs to Special Needs children, and in a matter of a day, we were matched with our new son. I did say son. I was not expecting this turn of events, but I am nonetheless very exited and happy to be traveling to China sometime this year, Lord willing, to pick him up and bring him home. I'll post his picture and name once I have the approval from our agency, but if you want to come over to my house, you can see his picture.
