Book signing

I was in Grand Rapids this past week and attended a book signing by one of the authors Tyndale publishes (Francine Rivers). She's on of my favorites. not because I've read everything by her, but she's a classy lady.

Blast from the past

I saw an old friend I hadn't seen in 20 years. We had a great visit catching up. I knew Howie when I lived in Phoenix and we went to the same church. He's now in Michigan, but our paths finally crossed again.

Photo editing software

I would give credit where credit is due, but I don't remember where I first heard of
www.gimp.org
But they have a free download of a photo editing software program. It's a bit overwhelming for me at the moment, but I have picked up a few things.

Kentucky

I am with Dawn and the kids, and we are in Kentucky for a few days of vacation. We've seen the Newport Aquarium, and then headed to Brook, KY for the night. Nothing special their other than a Quality Inn with a new treadmill if you do that sort of thing. Got up this morning and spent the first part of the day at the Patton Museum which houses tanks, uniforms, guns, a bust of Saddam Hussein (taken from this last Iraq invasion), and a piece of the Berlin wall. The last section of the exhibit really honors George Patton. It's a good place to get a quick overview of his life.

The second part of the day we headed to Abraham Lincoln's birthplace and boyhood home (until he was seven). The main take away for me was how life in some respects was so simple...and what caught my thoughts were the fact that people back then weren't working to build a retirement fund, accumulate things, and keep up with the Jone's. Maybe
they were...it's just not presented that way.

Peace and Quiet

My daughter and I went to a cemetary last weekend to shoot some photos. I did this about 13-14 years ago when I took a black and white photo class. Our final project was to shoot a roll of B/W film, then we would develop it in class. I went to a cemetary that is the home of Al Capone, and had some interesting shots-and my teacher liked them. Since then, I've thought cemetaries are peaceful places with interesting structures. Anyway, since I got my new camera, I let my daughter use my older one (1 year old) and we spent an hour or so walking the grounds. Still a peaceful place.

Goal

I'm not much into blogging...I mean, I like to read friends blogs, but have always struggled to have my own. I don't htink I really have all that much to say. The blogs of people I go back to over and over and those who seem interesting to me. I don't think I have a creative bone in my body, but two of my favorite blogs are guys who are designers by profession and I think ability. I sometimes read the links of others they find interesting, but usually stick to the main page. Down the road I will link to their blogs for your enjoyment.

I did come up with an idea however, one that I thought, even if no one else reads this, I will hopefully at years end, have a few memories from my travels. You see, I travel for a living as a District Sales Manager for a religious publisher based in Wheaton, Il.. I have been doing this for 15 years now, and it occured to me that I have a different view from the "office" everyday. If I combine my travels with my hobby of photography, I can leave a picture here of something I saw of interest that day. Now that is a tall order, to post a picture each day, but I will do my best to keep at least weekly postings going. Keep in mind, the pictures are not professional, just something I saw, happened to have my camera with me, and was able to take a quick shot of something. I'll do my best to explain the shot.

Having said all that, I think I will post a picture of a resturant from Decatur, Indiana, where my son and I ate lunch this past Monday. If your ever in that town, look it up. Good food, buffet style, and artifacts from the 1800's make it an enjoyable place to eat.
